Meet our Senior Management Team

Suzanne Andrews

Chief Executive     


Suzanne is a proud Aboriginal Woman from the Jaru, Punaba and Bunal Bardi peoples of Western Australia’s North Kimberley region and calls Broome home, she moved to Yarrabah in her early teens where she still now lives and works.

She is the Chief Executive of Gurriny Yealamucka Health Service and has over 15 years’ experience in health and the community-control sector and advocates for social change amongst her people and community.

Suzanne is a member of the Yarrabah Leaders Forum (YLF) which drives the strategic direction of the community of Yarrabah. 

Current board positions include, director of Lowitja Institute, director of Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) and Director of Northern Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Health Alliance (NATSIHA).

Dr Jason King

Director of Clinical Services | Senior Medical Officer 

Jason is a Yued Noongar man from the south-west of Western Australia. 

He graduated from medicine in 2007 and took up an internship at Royal Perth Hospital.

In 2015 he made the trip east to Cairns, starting work at Wuchopperen Health Service in Edmonton.

 In 2017 he took the short drive over the range one lunchtime to pay a visit to Yarrie when he 'fell in love with the place and has never looked back!"

"I love working with the community and with all the staff at Gurriny; and especially love seeing the health service achieve our goals and meet challenges head on'.

 Jason has  been the Senior Medical Officer at Gurriny since 2018. 


Anita Lee Hong

General Manager 

Anita is a descendant of the Badjalla language group. 

Born and educated in Cairns, she spent most of her early life there before moving to Perth in 2002 and then to Brisbane until January 2021.

Anita commenced in the role of General Manager at Gurriny in February 2021. As part of the Senior Management Team that support the work of the Chief Executive she leads the broader strategic business and systems development, stakeholder engagement and organisation development initiatives.

Anita is a  former Director – Research and Development at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (ATSICHS) (Brisbane). 

 Muhammad Ahmed

               Chief Financial Officer

Since moving to Australia from Pakistan 16 years ago with his wife, Muhammad Ahmed has studied and worked in the accounting field in  Queensland  

Cairns and far north Queensland is now home for Muhammad, his wife and two children, spending weekends exploring, relaxing and enjoying the lifestyle that FNQ is renowned for.

Since completing his Master’s Degree in Accounting from CQU (Central Queensland University, Melbourne Campus), Mahammad has worked within the disability service sector, hospitality and welfare associations.

Before joining the Gurriny team, Muhammad served as Finance Manager with a disability service provider based in the north.

Mandy Edwards

Director - Community & Wellbeing Services

Mandy’s mob are the Bailai people who are the Traditional Custodians of the Gladstone area in Central Queensland along with a strong connection to Tanna Island, Vanuatu.  Mandy was born and raised in Gladstone and left after completing high school to commence working as a Generalist Health Worker in Charleville SWQ in the mid 90’s.

With extensive experience in management, community engagement/development Mandy has spent her career working in health, education and foster and kinship care sectors.

Mandy is passionate about helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to live long, healthy and productive lives.  As an Aboriginal/South Sea Islander woman the values and principles of her culture underpin how she was raised and now motivates her to continue to treat people in any community both personally and professionally; share, care and respect.
