Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services has been providing a Pharmacy service to the Yarrabah Community since 2006.
The Pharmaceutical service ensures the best possible pharmaceutical care, advice and access is delivered for our community. We offer the following through our pharmacy service:
- Script processing
- Purchasing of over-the-counter medications
- Webster Packs (two weeks of patient medication, professionally packed to remind patients when to take their medication)
- Home Medication Reviews
The Home Medication Review (HMR) is a personal service provided to patients by one of our professional Pharmacist. The Pharmacist visits patients at their homes to review and ensure all medical information is up to date, their general well being and emotional needs have been met, and if there are any problems or changes in these circumstances. The Pharmacist works together with the Gurriny Pharmacy Assistant on behalf of the patient to achieve these health outcomes. This service also aims to improve relations between mainstream society and the community, thus closing the gap in Indigenous health. HMR’s are conducted every Wednesday.
Under the Close the Gap scheme (CTG), a number of medications are covered for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients. This means that for clients with a Concession Card or Health Care Card they will receive free medications. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients who do not have one of these cards, they will pay the concession price per medication. Not all medications are covered by CTG, therefore full price of medications will need to be paid. Please talk to our Pharmacy assistant about this when placing a script.
All scripts need to be submitted to the Pharmacy Assistant or Receptionist at Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services. Scripts submitted will be ready the next working day. For scripts placed on a Thursday, these will be ready for collection the following Monday.
